12 Muslim Girls Win Gold Medals, Seven Conferred Ph.D

Bengaluru, March 12: The 15th Convocation of Karnataka Women’s University, Vijayapur saw seven Muslim girls awarded with Ph.D and 12 other Muslim girls winning Gold Medals.

The Chancellor of the University Thawar Chand Gehlot awarded the Gold Medals to 80 outstanding students of under and post-graduation courses. Among them included Shakeela Begum, Firoza Walekar, Firdous Maniyar, Kousar, Yasmeen Mulla, Nimra, Muskan Dargah, Misbah Fatima, Syeda Saniya Tahoor, Nusrath Jahan Mulla and Muskan. Of the total 48 students who were awarded Ph.D seven were Muslims.

In a virtual address the pro-Chancellor of Central University Haryana, Prof. Shusma Yadav said education and skill are the tools of women empowerment which can take them to new heights. She advised the students to play a leading role in the construction of a pleasant society. Being a better half of the population, women are moving towards naming the 21st century after them, she added.

Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, also known as Karnataka State Women’s University, was established in August 2003 and is the first university exclusively for women in the state of Karnataka.

Prof. B.K. Tulasimala, Vice-Chancellor presented the progress report of the university.
