2 Dead, 20 Missing After Himachal Cloudburst, Monsoon Devastation in Uttarakhand

In Haridwar, a dilapidated house collapsed due to heavy rain, killing two children and injuring nine others. The deceased were Aas Mohammed (10) and Nagma (8). District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbyal stated that three of the injured are in critical condition, while the others are stable.

 

1 Aug. 2024: Twenty people are reported missing following a cloudburst near Shimla’s Rampur. The disaster occurred near a hydroelectric power project at Samej Khad early today, according to the district administration, reported the NDTV.

A disaster response team has been dispatched, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, along with district police chief Sanjeev Gandhi, are heading to the site. “About 20 people are missing from the affected area,” Mr. Kashyap confirmed.

Road connectivity has been severely impacted, forcing rescue teams to trek to the site. Another cloudburst struck Mandi, 125 km from Shimla, causing road blockages and landslides. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan has ordered the closure of all educational institutions and vocational training centers in the Padhar subdivision due to safety concerns.

Monsoon fury has also disrupted life in neighboring Uttarakhand. In Tehri Garhwal district, a cloudburst resulted in two fatalities and one injury at Jakhanyali. The victims have been identified as Bhanu Prasad (50) and Anita Devi (45). The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reported finding two bodies and rescuing an injured individual from a 200-meter-deep ditch.
