New Delhi: As air quality worsens in the Delhi-NCR region, a recent survey has revealed that 69% households have at least one member suffering from pollution-related health problems, such as sore throats and persistent coughs.
On Diwali night, air pollution in the capital spiked dramatically, with Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting an alarming 999 in various areas. Conducted by Local Circles, a digital community platform, the survey gathered input from over 21,000 Delhi-NCR residents, underscoring the severe impact of pollution on residents’ health.
According to the survey, 62% families report that at least one member is suffering from eye irritation due to rising pollution levels, while 46% have a family member with nasal congestion or a runny nose.
Additionally, 31% respondents reported experiencing breathing difficulties or asthma, with the same percentage noting frequent headaches. Around 23% cited anxiety or trouble focusing, and 15% mentioned sleep issues. On the other hand, 31% of households reported no pollution-related health issues.
The survey noted, “With many already experiencing coughs, colds, and respiratory conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the hazardous post-Diwali AQI levels are expected to worsen these issues.”
