Omar Abdullah Asserts Focus on J&K Statehood in Lok Sabha Elections

14 May 2024: In a recent statement, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah reiterated his party’s stance on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing its prioritization in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking during a campaign event in Kupwara district, Abdullah dismissed statehood as a key electoral issue for the National Conference, citing assurances from Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister regarding its eventual restoration.

Abdullah’s remarks come amidst growing anticipation surrounding the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls, with implications extending to the upcoming assembly elections in the Union territory.

The former chief minister, who is contesting from Baramulla constituency, highlighted the commitment of the current government towards reinstating full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He indicated that irrespective of the election results, the restoration of statehood remains a foregone conclusion.

Acknowledging the pledges made by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha last year, Abdullah expressed confidence in the eventual fulfillment of these assurances. He also underscored the significance of the upcoming assembly elections in shaping the trajectory of statehood restoration.

Abdullah’s comments reflect the broader political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, where statehood remains a central issue amidst ongoing electoral dynamics.
