Suraj Nagar Religious Leaders Ban Un-Islamic Wedding Practices

Suraj Nagar, Moradabad, May 24: In a significant move to align local wedding practices with Islamic principles, Islah-e-Muashira Committee Suraj Nagar has announced a ban on several un-Islamic wedding traditions. This decision was made during a meeting held on May 19, 2024, at Madani Masjid, attended by respected ulema, imams, and other notable figures from the community.

The banned practices are as follows:

  1. Ban on Turmeric Ritual: The traditional ritual of applying turmeric (haldi) will no longer be performed at weddings.
  2. Prohibition of Fireworks: Firecrackers and fireworks are strictly forbidden during wedding celebrations.
  3. No Music and Dancing: DJs, boomboxes, and any form of dancing or singing via mobile devices are banned at wedding events.
  4. Welcoming Baraat: Women will not participate in welcoming the wedding procession (baraat).

Consequences for Non-Compliance

The Islah-e-Muashira Committee, which issued these directives, has stated that any individual who forcibly violates these rules will face community ostracism. This includes a complete boycott of their wedding, refusal to participate in their wedding feast and funeral prayers, and non-recognition of their nikah.

The committee’s decision aims to eliminate practices deemed un-Islamic and promote a more modest and pious way of conducting wedding ceremonies.
