BJP Activists Attack MediaOne TV Headquarters in Kerala After Election Victory

Kozhikode, Kerala, June 5: In a significant development following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) historic win in Kerala’s Thrissur constituency, BJP activists allegedly attacked the headquarters of MediaOne TV in Kozhikode. The incident occurred after Suresh Gopi, a popular Malayalam actor-turned-politician, secured a victory, marking the BJP’s first Lok Sabha seat in the southern state.

The attack reportedly involved saffron-clad BJP workers who threw firecrackers and attempted to trespass on the premises of the channel’s studio. One staff member was injured during the incident. A video of the event has been circulating widely on social media platforms.

This attack comes against a backdrop of tension between MediaOne TV and the BJP. The channel faced a government-imposed ban in 2022 for its critical coverage of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP. The Supreme Court of India later lifted the ban, deeming it arbitrary and unjust.

Suresh Gopi’s win in Thrissur, with a majority of 74,686 votes, has been a major milestone for the BJP as it seeks to expand its influence in Kerala. The victory has sparked celebrations among party supporters, although the events at MediaOne TV’s headquarters have cast a shadow over the triumph.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to ensure accountability and uphold press freedom in the region.
