Unani Medicine Faces Bias, Calls for Equal Promotion in West Bengal

Kolkata, June 25: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (West Bengal) held a significant meeting here with the Vice President of the Pharmacy Wing, Hakim Aftab Alam, attending as the Special Guest. During the meeting, Hakim Alam expressed concern over the neglect of Unani medicine due to administrative inefficiencies in West Bengal, despite the state’s secular governance.

He suggested that a delegation from the Tibbi Congress should meet with the Chief Minister to address the current situation. Hakim Alam highlighted that the recent advertisement by the AYUSH Department of West Bengal for medical officer positions omitted the mention of BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) qualifications. He emphasized that the AYUSH Department is responsible for promoting and developing Unani medicine, just as it does for Ayurveda.

Hakim Manzar Sadiq, General Secretary of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress (West Bengal), extended his gratitude to all participants for their support and engagement in the meeting.
