– Shakilur Rahman

New Delhi, 19 Sep: Amidst the serious discussions being conducted by the Law Commission regarding the Uniform Civil Code, the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to drive a nationwide campaign for giving women a share in father’s property including other reforms. Through the campaign women will be made aware about their inheritance rights as per Islamic Shari’ah.

This decision was taken in the Working Committee meeting of the Board held at New Horizon School in Delhi on Sunday. The Board expressed concern over exploitation of women, foeticide, dowry and domestic violence.

According to Islamic Shari’ah, in the Muslim society daughters have the right up to 25 percent of the ancestral property.

In a statement to the media, a senior official of the Board said that in many cases daughters are being deprived of their property rights as per Shari’ah. In such a situation, members of the Working Committee have emphasized the campaign to bring comprehensive reforms within the society, especially regarding women.

Keeping in view the importance of this campaign, the Board has deployed its three secretaries, Maulana S Ahmed Faisal Rahmani, Maulana Mohammad Umrain Mahfooz Rahmani and Maulana Yasin Ali Usmani, to execute their responsibilities of creating awareness in three earmarked zones of the country.
