New Delhi, 20 Sep: The All-India Educational Movement (AIEM) organized a legal awareness program on Inheritance and Will in Islam – Indian Concept and Legal Framework at Tasmiya Hall here Sunday. The program proved to be an enlightening and informative gathering, fostering a deeper understanding of inheritance laws in Islam and their significance within the Indian legal framework. It brought together a diverse group of legal experts and scholars who shared their insights on inheritance and its legal aspects.
In his inaugural address, AIEM President, Mr. Khawaja M Shahid emphasized the critical importance of the topic, calling it a timely and essential subject matter.
Dr. Raziul Islam Nadvi, an Islamic scholar, delved into the religious aspects of inheritance in Islam, elucidating the differences between Hiba (gift), Wasiyat (will), and Miras (bequest). He also highlighted the conditions of property transfer and shared invaluable insights on various relationships and their relevance to inheritance.
Dr. Anwar Alam, an expert in inheritance accounting and author of several books in Urdu, Hindi and English on Inheritance Law, captivated the audience with his presentation, shedding light on the principles of accounting for inheritances in diverse scenarios.
Mufti Athar Shamshi, Director of Al Quran Academy in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the significance of adhering to the teachings of the Quran and its wealth of knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
Supreme Court Advocate M R Shamshad provided historical context, tracing the evolution of personal laws of succession from the Mughal era to the early 18th century. He discussed how British and Indian courts initially applied laws based on customs, incorporating translations of Hidaya, which evolved and diversified over time.
Dr. S. Farooq, President of Himalaya Wellness Company and Tasmiya Educational and Welfare Society, in his presidential speech, captivated the audience with his unique poetic style.
Chief guest Dr. Subhradipta Sarkar from Jamia Millia Islamia Law Faculty shared insightful anecdotes from British India’s past, offering a historical perspective to the theme of the program. Guest of Honor Wasim Qadri stressed the importance of character and righteous actions in upholding the principles of Islam. Throughout the program, the speakers engaged with the audience, addressing their questions and concerns.
The event commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Mozaffar Ali, Treasurer of AIEM, and a warm welcome by Supreme Court lawyer Aslam Ahmed. Advocate Raees Ahmed facilitated the program and shared his perspectives. Concluding the program, AIEM General Secretary Mr. Abdul Rasheed expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests and speakers for their participation.
