Hyderabad, July 6: Attorney General of India, R. Venkataramani today inaugurated the Moot Court at newly-established Law School at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU).
Moot court is a mock court in which law students argue hypothetical cases for practice.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that law education in Urdu will lead to an increase in cultural wealth of India. According to him, law schools are actually laboratories of law. Urdu language can be a valuable asset for MANUU Law School students, which will give them a unique opportunity.
He thanked Maulana Azad National Urdu University for naming the MANUU Moot Court after his name.
Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor CNLU, Patna and Adjunct Professor of MANUU Law School, said that MANUU should be given constitutional status and protection and should be recognized as an institution of national importance.
Prof. Mustafa appealed to the Attorney General of India to approve a project for the Law School of MANUU to translate three new laws into Urdu. He assured to work on this translation project himself.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan said this day will be remembered for the opening of Law School in Maulana Azad National Urdu University and the presence of the Attorney General of India. He said various people have contributed directly and indirectly for the establishment of Law School.
Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University Mumtaz Ali welcomed the establishment of MANUU Law School and assured that he will always strive for the all-round development of the University. He emphasized the importance of justice for humanity.
He said that in Surah Al-Fatihah, Allah has called Himself the Lord of the Judgment Day. This shows the importance of justice. He said that every lawyer, judge and others related to the profession of justice should keep this in mind.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor told the media that MANUU is set to start its courses – five-year BA LLB (Hons.), three-year LLB and one-year LLM programmes – this academic year. The Bar Council of India has accorded its approval, entrance tests have been completed and the admission exercise is under way, he said.
For the first batch at the law school the intake in each of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses is 60.
Hasan said law education in Urdu medium was once offered by Osmania University in Hyderabad. But the courses were discontinued 74 years ago.
Now, MANUU, with a mandate to provide higher education through Urdu medium has taken the initiative to offer courses in law from under Graduate to Doctoral level.
“The commencement of law courses is a milestone in the history of MANUU. The Parliamentary Standing Committee has itself recommended that the education of law should be imparted in regional languages too,” he said.
Member of Parliament, Vivek Thakur, who was heading the committee, had said that the effective implementation of New Education Policy 2020 is possible only through education in regional languages. Hasan believes that the MANUU Law School is a significant headway in this direction.
Prof. Tabrez Ahmad, Dean Law School and the Registrar, Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed and others were also present.
