Aligarh, July 8: In a troubling incident in the Quarsi area of Aligarh, a Muslim youth was stripped and beaten by members of Hindutva outfits on Wednesday, July 3, for allegedly talking to a Hindu girl.
A viral video shows the youth shirtless and surrounded by a group of men. One individual in the video accuses the youth of harassing his minor daughter for five years.
In another video, BJP Mayor Shakuntala Bharti is seen warning the administration to address ‘love jihad’ cases or face their intervention. The term ‘love jihad’ is a conspiracy theory propagated by far-right groups and BJP leaders, alleging that Muslim men lure Hindu women into marriages to forcibly convert them to Islam.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) reportedly confirmed that upon receiving information about the incident, Quarsi police initiated an investigation and detained the youth for questioning.
The incident has sparked outrage and highlighted the rising tensions and communal violence in the region.
