21 Jul. 24: Hamas has called for immediate international intervention to end Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories following a landmark ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The top UN court declared the occupation illegal and urged its termination “as rapidly as possible.”
In a statement released on Friday night, Hamas welcomed the ICJ’s advisory opinion, emphasizing the urgency of international action to dismantle Israeli settlements and halt their expansion in the West Bank. The group highlighted the necessity of removing existing settlements and ending efforts to Judaize Al-Quds City and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The ICJ’s decision also called on the UN General Assembly and Security Council to determine precise measures to conclude Israel’s presence in Palestinian territories. The court’s ruling builds on past directives urging Israel to cease its operations in Gaza, facilitate humanitarian aid, and refrain from ground invasions.
Hamas’s statement criticized Israel’s consistent disregard for international rulings, citing unwavering support from the United States as a significant factor. The resistance movement insisted that the global community must enforce the ICJ’s decisions and override US influence to ensure compliance with international law.
This development comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing conflicts in the region, with Hamas asserting the importance of ending what it describes as Israel’s unlawful and oppressive occupation. (With inputs from IRNA)
