Human society is full of contrasts. On one hand we come across ruthless killings, lynching, immolating of humans by fellow humans. On the other hand, we witness people risking their own lives to save those of others.
Recognising such yeoman services and honouring them duly will definitely promote humaneness in society. It was a laudable occasion on Friday when M.N Kaleemulla was honoured with Chief Minister’s Gold Medal at the hands of state home minister G. Parameshwar.
Kaleemulla is a volunteer associated with R A Mundkar Fire and Emergency Services Academy, Bangalore. He is known for saving several injured persons in various accidents by rushing medical aid to them, especially during Covid-19 pandemic.
He was instrumental in giving a graceful farewell to the ill- fated persons who succumbed to the pandemic- at a time when their close relatives were scared and were maintaining safe distance. He is ranked as Divisional Warden at the Academy. Ironically, he hails from KG Halli area in city which had witnessed riots as a backlash of blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ three years ago.
Other volunteers associated with Home Guards and Fire Brigade were also honoured on this occasion. Additional Director of Police Kamal Pant and other police officers were also present.
