Kanwariyas Assault Driver in Muzaffarnagar Over False Claims

27 July 2024: In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a violent confrontation occurred on July 21 when a group of Kanwariyas attacked a car carrying Muslims. A group of Kanwariyas, participating in their religious yatra, accused the vehicle of grazing their Kanwar and causing desecration, a claim that proved to be false.

The incident was captured on video and shared on social media, prompting a police investigation. Authorities have determined that the assault was unprovoked and based on misinformation. An FIR has been filed against 10 to 15 unidentified Kanwariyas, who face charges including voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, public nuisance, rioting, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and mischief under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Driver Aquib, who was driving to Meerut to drop off his brother-in-law, denied the allegations, asserting that his vehicle did not come into contact with the Kanwariyas or their procession. He fled the scene to avoid further violence and was later rescued by police.
