Recognition of 56 Madrasas Revoked in Madhya Pradesh

By Pervez Bari

Bhopal, July 31: The Madhya Pradesh Madarsa Board, under the BJP-led state government, has revoked the recognition of 56 out of 80 madrasas in Sheopur district. The decision, based on a report from the District Education Officer (DEO) of Sheopur, highlights that these institutions were found non-operational.

According to an official release issued on Tuesday, the DEO’s surprise inspection revealed that out of 80 recognized madrasas in Sheopur, 56 were non-functional. Among these, 54 madrasas receive grants from the state government.

Nitin Saxena, Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Madarsa Board, stated that the DEO’s inspection team physically verified the operation of 80 affiliated madrasas (54 aided and 26 non-aided) in Sheopur. Following the verification, it was confirmed that 56 madrasas were not operational, prompting the DEO to propose the cancellation of their recognition.

A copy of the order issued on July 29 details that the DEO Sheopur formed a team for the physical verification of these madrasas. The verification committee reported that 56 madrasas were completely non-operational, leading to the DEO’s proposal to revoke their affiliation.

The concerned madrasas were issued a show-cause notice on July 16, with a three-day window to respond. However, no replies were received by the Madrasa Board, resulting in the cancellation of their recognition effective from July 29. The order also mandates that all government facilities provided to these madrasas be ceased immediately. The DEO Sheopur is instructed to ensure the transfer of students from the non-operational madrasas to other functioning madrasas or government schools within the district.

The Madarsa Board has also directed all DEOs across the state to conduct physical inspections of madrasas in their areas. Any madrasa not complying with government regulations should have its recognition revoked.

Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh has called for an expedited physical verification process for all madrasas in the state. He emphasized that madrasas not operating according to the rules should have their recognition canceled, and urged for the swift verification of private educational institutions as well.
