Right-Wing Activist Arrested for Performing ‘Saawan Rituals’ at Taj Mahal

August 8, 2024 Agra: A woman affiliated with a right-wing group was arrested on Monday after conducting a water ritual and raising a saffron flag at the Taj Mahal, claiming the monument was originally a Shiva temple, reported the Times of India.

Meera Rathore, associated with the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM), was detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). A senior CISF official confirmed, “She is currently being questioned. We are also working to identify the individual who recorded her videos. We will transfer her to the police and file a formal complaint about the incident.”

As of now, the CISF has not yet handed Rathore over to the police. Tajganj SHO Jasveer Singh stated, “We have not received any complaint yet, nor has the CISF handed over anyone to us.”

This arrest follows the detention of two other individuals from the same organization two days earlier for allegedly performing similar rituals at the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
