Muslim Community Protests Uddhav Sena MPs’ Absence During Waqf Bill Debate in Lok Sabha

Mumbai, August 12, 2024: The Muslim community in Maharashtra expressed their discontent on Saturday by staging a protest outside the residence of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai. The demonstration was sparked by the absence of Shiv Sena (UBT) Members of Parliament during the debate on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, reported India Today.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which aims to reduce the powers of Waqf boards and councils, has drawn strong opposition from Muslim leaders and various political parties. Critics of the bill argue that it represents an attempt to seize land and undermine the rights of the Muslim community.

The absence of Shiv Sena MPs during such a crucial debate has particularly angered members of the community, who view the bill as a direct threat to their interests. Protesters gathered outside Uddhav Thackeray’s home, demanding accountability and expressing their frustration over what they perceive as a lack of representation and support from the party.

Opposition parties have also voiced their concerns, condemning the bill as an assault on the Muslim community’s rights and calling for its rejection. As tensions rise, the debate over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill continues to be a contentious issue in Indian politics.
