Maharashtra Muslim Leaders Meet Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Demand Action on Blasphemy and Clarification on Waqf Amendment Bill

Mumbai, Aug 22: In response to growing concerns among the Muslim community in Maharashtra, a high-level delegation from the Federation of Maharashtra Muslims met with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The delegation included notable figures such as Padma Shri Dr. Zaheer Qazi, President of Anjuman-I-Islam Mumbai; Dr. Saleem Khan, senior journalist and member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Advisory Council; Farid Sheikh, President of Aman Committee Mumbai; and several other prominent community leaders.

During the meeting, the delegation raised several issues contributing to a sense of insecurity among Muslims. They highlighted the increasing violence against Muslims by communal and disruptive elements and the perceived inaction by authorities. Additionally, they expressed the community’s strong discontent over the blasphemous remarks made by Ramgiri Maharaj against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, urging his immediate arrest.

The delegation also discussed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, seeking clarity on the party’s stance and expressing the concerns of the Muslim community. They further demanded strict action against those disrupting peace in the state and called for concrete measures to address the rising incidents of sexual violence.

Abdul Mujeeb Sheikh, Coordinator of the Federation of Maharashtra Muslims, stated that the discussions with the Deputy CM centered around four key points: the arrest of Ramgiri Maharaj for his blasphemous remarks, clarification on the Waqf Amendment Bill, strict action against those disturbing state peace, and effective steps to combat sexual violence.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar attentively listened to the delegation’s concerns and assured them of necessary action. He promised to bring these issues to the attention of the Chief Minister and seek appropriate interventions.
