Tonk’s Qureshi Community Calls for Establishment of Modern Slaughterhouse

– Raheem Khan

Tonk, Aug 29: Members of the Qureshi community, under the leadership of Advocate Kashif Zuberi, submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner on Tuesday, pressing for the establishment of a modern, legal slaughterhouse in the city.

The memorandum emphasized urgent need for a modern slaughterhouse in accordance with the District Collector’s order dated 25 January 2024, Municipal Corporation Act of 2009, and various state government notifications concerning the slaughterhouse and meat trade. Adv. Zuberi highlighted that since independence, a significant portion of Tonk’s population has relied on the meat business for their livelihood. However, due to the absence of a legal slaughterhouse, many traders face difficulties and obstacles that affect their ability to earn a living.

Zuberi reiterated the community’s demand for a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse in Tonk to ensure that those in the meat trade can operate without any legal hindrances.

“The traders have no objection to paying any charges, fees, or taxes imposed by the Municipal Corporation,” he said.

“Our demand is that, until the establishment of a modern slaughterhouse, the administration should designate a suitable location for slaughter. This would prevent traders from facing any issues due to political pressure or accusations of illegal slaughter.”

It is noteworthy that seven months ago, Tonk’s District Collector acknowledged the importance and urgency of the matter and formed a committee to identify a suitable site for a new slaughterhouse in the Tonk subdivision area. The Municipal Commissioner was appointed as a prominent member of this committee.

The delegation included Fardeen Deshwali, Atiq Deshwali, Shoaib Deshwali, Nadeem Deshwali, Bismil, Ahmed Deshwali, Firoz Ansari, and representatives of the Qureshi community such as Shafiq, Asif, Irfan, Hafiz, Kalu Bhai, Sadiq, Aslam, and others.
