Opposition Leaders File Police Complaint Against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Over Controversial Remarks

Opposition leaders in Assam have lodged a police complaint against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of inciting religious and racial discord. The complaint follows Sarma’s recent statement that he “will not let Miya Muslims take over all of Assam,” reported The Indian Express.

The complaint was filed by Bhupen Borah, President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, and Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the Assam Jatiya Parishad, representing the United Opposition Forum, which includes various groups opposed to the BJP. Other notable signatories include Independent Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan, Debabrata Saikia, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, and Congress MP Rakibul Hussain.

According to Guwahati East DCP Mrinal Deka, the complaint has been received at the Dispur police station, but no FIR had been registered by Wednesday evening. The opposition alleges that Sarma’s comments amount to a “criminal conspiracy” aimed at sowing unrest among different communities in Assam.
