Police, Intelligence Failure Led to Jainoor Violence, Says AIMIM

Hyderabad, Sep 7: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has said that the failure of police and intelligence led to the violence in Janioor town of Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. It demanded stringent action against those involved in attacks on mosques and properties of Muslims.

All seven AIMIM MLAs met Director-General of Police Dr Jitender and conveyed their concern over the attacks on places of worship and shops of Muslims. The delegation stated that if the police had taken adequate preventive steps in view of the bandh call by some tribal groups, violence could have been prevented.

The delegation led by the party’s party floor leader in Telangana Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi, said the miscreants attacked the mosques and desecrated the holy Quran. They termed the attack pre-planned and sought strong action against those involved.

The delegation made it clear that it also wants police to investigate the alleged molestation of a tribal woman by an autorickshaw driver and ensure punishment if found guilty. The MLAs pointed out that a day after the alleged molestation, the accused Sheikh Makhdoom was arrested on September 1.

“We want to know if it is fair to target an entire community for the crime committed by a person,” AIMIM MLA from Malakpet Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala asked while talking to media persons after meeting the DGP.

The delegation pointed out that on September 2 the police had urged shopkeepers to shut their shops on September 3 in view of the bandh call given by some tribal groups. Though Muslim businessmen did not open their shops, some protestors raised provocative slogans against Muslims and blamed the entire Muslim community for the incident. They said hate speeches were made in the presence of police.

The delegation told the DGP that if the police had deployed forces in Muslim areas in view of the bandh call, violence would not have taken place. It said the miscreants attacked 60 shops, five places of worship and five houses. The community suffered losses of several crores of rupees.

Akbaruddin Owaisi said a day before the violence petrol bottles were brought by a person and the same were used to burn the properties of Muslims.

He said if the tribal woman was molested, the police should take action after the inquiry. The AIMIM leader also pointed out that local residents were calling it an accident. He said it was for the police to conduct a thorough investigation and send the victim for medical examination.

Akbaruddin Owaisi told the DGPP that the police and intelligence had failed, leading to the violence. He demanded that the police take all necessary security measures in view of Ganesh festival. He urged the police to keep a tight vigil on the miscreants and alleged that some elements want to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

The DGP assured the delegation that those involved in violence would not be spared. He said action would also be taken against police personnel if it is found that they failed to perform their duties.
