SIO Telangana Leads Peaceful Dharna Demanding Re-Roster and Mega DSC to Address Urdu Medium Teacher Vacancy Backlog

Hyderabad, Sep 9: A group of determined aspirants, supported by Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Telangana, conducted a peaceful dharna at the office of Director and Commissioner of School Education here today. They submitted a memorandum to IAS Narsimha Reddy. The protest was led by Faisal Khan, PR Secretary of SIO Telangana.

One of the female aspirants addressing the protest stated that the demonstration was organized to bring attention to a significant issue affecting the recruitment of teachers for Urdu medium posts in the state.

Another aspirant explained that in the recently announced DSC 2024, a total of 1,183 posts were reserved for Urdu medium teachers. However, only 517 posts are set to be filled, leaving 666 posts as a backlog due to the unavailability of candidates from SC and ST communities who are proficient in Urdu. This issue is not new, as a similar problem occurred in the 2016 notification. Out of 900 Urdu medium posts at that time, only 365 were filled, leaving 535 posts unfilled as backlogs. These vacant posts, reserved for SC and ST categories, have created a long-standing issue, further exacerbating the shortage of teachers in Urdu medium schools.

She added that aspirants from across Telangana are now demanding a re-roster and a Mega DSC, where all backlogged vacancies, including those from previous notifications, are re-allocated. They are calling for the unfilled posts to be moved to the general category so that these positions can be filled without delay, ensuring the smooth functioning of Urdu medium schools.

Faisal Khan, SIO Telangana Secretary, stated: “We urge the government to address this grave issue. The current approach of leaving a backlog will continue to harm the education system. Re-roster these vacancies and consider all aspirants equally, irrespective of their community, to fill these critical teaching positions.”

Faisal emphasized that the issue has reached a crisis point, affecting the quality of education for thousands of students across Telangana, particularly in Urdu medium schools. The aspirants and protestors believe that a comprehensive solution, including a Mega DSC with a re-roster process, is the only way to resolve the growing backlog of vacant teaching posts.

“We appeal to the government to take immediate action and ensure that all vacant posts, including those carried over from previous years, are filled promptly,” he concluded.
