Karnataka Forms 2,500-km Longest Human Chain to Mark International Day of Democracy

In a grand gesture to commemorate International Day of Democracy on Sunday, September 15, 2024, Karnataka is preparing to form a 2,500-km-long human chain spanning from Bidar to Chamarajanagar. The event, which will cover all 31 districts of the state, is being organized under the leadership of the Karnataka government, reported The Hindu.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative on X, stated: “Tomorrow is International Day of Democracy. On this day, we are gearing up to spread the aspirations of democracy by building the longest human chain from Bidar to Chamarajanagar. You too join hands with us. Let’s all save democracy together.”

Mr. Siddaramaiah, along with senior Ministers and officials, will be joining the human chain in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, making a symbolic stand for democratic values.

This significant event aims to highlight the importance of unity and democracy, with thousands of participants expected to join hands across the state, from north to south. It is seen as a powerful move to demonstrate Karnataka’s commitment to the democratic ideals and principles that form the foundation of the nation.

The celebration comes at a crucial time when democratic values are being increasingly emphasized across the globe. Karnataka’s unique approach to marking this day through such a large-scale public display is being widely applauded.
