AMSO Hosts Mulaqat-e-Khas Event to Celebrate and Honor Island Senior Citizens

Stewart Gunj, A&N Islands:  The Andaman Moplah Service Organization (AMSO) hosted the Mulaqat-e-Khas event today at the Stewart Gunj Panchayat Hall, a gathering designed to honor and connect with senior citizens from the community. With around 125 attendees, including esteemed elders, community leaders, and volunteers, the event emphasized the importance of communal harmony and unity.

The event served as a tribute to the senior members of the community, recognizing their contributions and experiences. The gathering which featured thought-provoking speeches from distinguished guests who shared their reflections on the community’s journey through adversity was welcomed by Abdul Siddique, General Secretary AMSO. These included stories of collective resilience during challenging periods such as British deportation, the Japanese occupation, and the devastating 2004 tsunami.

Notably, Tak Babu’s address highlighted the critical need for communal harmony. He urged attendees to uphold unity and mutual respect amidst rising communal tensions that are increasingly affecting even the remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands. His message resonated strongly with the audience, who expressed their appreciation for AMSO’s efforts in providing a platform for seniors to voice their concerns and experiences.

The event also highlighted the growing concern among community leaders about the impact of national communal discord on local harmony. Speakers expressed their disappointment over the rise in communal tensions and called upon the younger generation to foster solidarity and work together as one community. They stressed that maintaining communal harmony is essential not only for the well-being of the islands but for the nation’s overall social fabric.

In a moving segment, Swaran Singh shared his experiences with the Moplah community through a heartfelt song, reflecting on the deep-rooted cultural ties and shared history that binds the community together. His presentation was a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving communal bonds through cultural and social engagement.

AMSO’s Mulaqat-e-Khas event is part of its broader mission to ensure that the elderly remain engaged and valued within the community. By providing a forum for seniors to discuss their experiences and concerns, AMSO continues to champion the cause of communal harmony and social cohesion, reaffirming its commitment to addressing the needs of all members of the community. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mohd Rafi, Joint Secretary AMSO.
