APCR, Muslim Muttahida Mahaz Joint Team Visits Riot-Affected Nagamangala

Bengaluru: The APCR state team, along with leaders of Muslim Muttahida Mahaz, visited Nagamangala and engaged in comprehensive interactions with victims, community leaders, and police officers. The delegation also conducted site visits to locations where shops had been burnt.

Last Wednesday, a riot broke out in Nagamangala, Mandya district of Karnataka, following allegations of stone-throwing at a Ganpati immersion procession. As per the Mandya Police, seven bikes and six shops were burnt, and a total of 15 bikes and a car were slightly damaged during the incident.

As per the SP of Mandya, Mallikarjun Baladandi, the incident took place when the Ganapati procession stopped and started dancing in front of a Dargah for five to seven minutes. Following this, the people from the other group came and told the procession to leave, which resulted in a word exchange but the police cleared the situation between these two groups.

Inspector of the Nagamangala Town Police Station Ashok Kumar has been placed under suspension on the charge of dereliction of duty in the wake of the communal violence that erupted during a procession taken out ahead of the immersion of a Ganesh idol in the town on Wednesday.

This visit of APCR and Mahaz joint team aimed to assess the situation on the ground, provide support to the affected individuals, offer legal assistance, and facilitate dialogue between the community and law enforcement to ensure justice and promote communal harmony.

Additionally, the bail proceedings for the innocent accused are being taken and will be monitored by the APCR district team.
