Ajmer: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress, Rajasthan State, organized a national seminar titled “The Life and Services of Hakim Ajmal Khan” at the Information Centre here Tuesday. The seminar was chaired by Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Vice Chancellor of Dr. S.R.K. Ayurved University, Jodhpur. He emphasized the need for standard education and quality pharmaceuticals for the promotion and development of Unani medicine.
Senior leader and Member of Parliament from Saharanpur, Mr. Imran Masood, attended as the chief guest and addressed Unani doctors and practitioners from across the country. He stated, “Repaying the debt of Hakim Ajmal Khan is a national duty for all of us,” and urged the Government of India to honor Hakim Ajmal Khan with the Bharat Ratna award and elevate the A&U Tibbia College to a National Unani University.
Mr. Masood highlighted that Hakim Ajmal Khan’s residence, Sharif Manzil in Delhi, served as a hub for India’s freedom fighters. He noted that while Hakim Ajmal Khan was a distinguished physician, he was also one of India’s top leaders, deserving the Bharat Ratna long ago. He expressed concern that a small group of people had unjustly confined Urdu and Unani medicine to a religious identity, stating, “Neither Ayurveda is Hindu, nor Unani is Muslim; both are about making humans healthy and freeing them from illness.”
Prominent figures at the seminar included former principal of A&U Tibbia College, Professor Mohammad Idris; former Dean of Jamia Hamdard, Professor Syed Mohammad Arif Zaidi; Secretary General of the All India Unani Medical Congress, Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan; and several other distinguished guests and leaders.
Professor Idris, in his insightful address, shed light on the life and contributions of the prominent freedom fighter and physician Hakim Ajmal Khan, emphasizing the unique legacy he left behind through institutions like Jamia Millia Islamia and A&U Tibbia College.
The seminar began with the recitation of the Quran and interfaith prayers, attended by representatives from various religions, including Dr. Syed Mansoor Ali (Muslim), Kashmiri Singh (Sikh), Vikram Singh (Buddhist), Father George (Christian), Prakash Jain (Jain), and Prajapati (Hindu).
The event saw participation from numerous medical professionals, including Professor Ghulam Qutub Chishti, Dr. Parvez Akhtar Waris, Dr. Nisar Ali Chaudhry, and many others who contributed their insights.
Dr. M.A. Siddiqui, President of AIUTC, concluded the program by thanking all guests and participants for their presence and contributions.
