Need to know other religions, to develop respect and trust: VamDenis Desa

Udupi: Reverend Vam Denis Desa of Thottam Sant Annamma Church said that when one learns the scriptures of another religion and gets to know their customs and teachings, respect and trust for its people will arise.

He was speaking at the Church Hall on Friday while participating in a friendship gathering organized by Jamaat-e-Islami-Hind, Malpe Unit on the occasion of the Prophet’s message campaign.

“All religions teach humanity, harmonious life. The messages of kindness, forgiveness, justice and equality preached by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are still relevant today. Man does not live on an island but in a community. So, I need a community, a shared life. Each of us is like a brick in the wall. A wall is formed by the arrangement of one brick at a time. What challenges can be won if we stand together,” he said.

He added that truth, trust and tolerance have disappeared in today’s society and everyone should join hands to save it.

Tottam Samanwaya Sarva Dharma Samiti chairman, Ramesh said mankind is the culture that our forefathers gave us. Today, due to the influence of social media, mutual distrust has arisen. He said that due to this, the society is filled with polluted atmosphere and when all religions come together, the message of coexistence will be spread.

In his presidential remarks, Jamaa-e-Islami Hind Mangalore president Ishak Puttur said that every scripture has given the message of acting without hurting others and accordingly, by doing good deeds in the society, work should be done to strengthen mutual friendships.
