Youth Arrested for Assaulting Vegetable Vendor Over Community Identity in Jaipur

Jaipur: In a disturbing incident in Brahmapuri area, a youth was arrested for violently assaulting a vegetable vendor after questioning him about his community. The attack, which was filmed and shared on social media, quickly went viral, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

The accused, Anshul Dadhich, a resident of Sitaram Bazaar Govindbari, reportedly confronted the vendor near the Brahmapuri bus stand, using abusive language and physically attacking him. His accomplice, Himmat Singh, recorded the incident, capturing the confrontation and the subsequent outrage from bystanders, including a woman who voiced her disapproval. The vendor managed to escape during the chaos.

Upon receiving information about the viral video, the police initiated an immediate investigation. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shivratan Godara confirmed that Anshul was quickly identified and apprehended, with his mobile phone confiscated for further examination. Himmat Singh was also arrested shortly thereafter. A case of assault and inciting religious sentiments has been registered against both individuals based on a formal complaint filed by the victim, who lives nearby.

Significantly, Anshul has a history of disruptive behavior, having previously created a disturbance by climbing a water tank in 2017. Following public outrage, he issued an apology on social media for his recent actions.

Advocate Aslam Khan highlighted urgent response from the Minority Advocate Association (MAA), which became involved as the video circulated. On the day of the incident, Khan and his colleagues, including Advocate Wasim Khan and Advocate Ahad Naqvi, coordinated with local social worker Pappu Qureshi to support the victim. They approached Brahmapuri police station to file a report, which led to registration of an FIR vide number 313. The police acted under the direction of Jaipur Police Commissioner, ensuring the matter was taken seriously.

The police have registered charges under various sections, including BNS 126(2), 115(2), 3(5), 196(1)(a), 196(1)(b), 299, 302, 352, and 353(2). Authorities are also investigating the individuals who interacted with the viral video, including those who liked or shared it.

The MAA expressed gratitude to Jaipur police for their prompt action in addressing the incident, emphasizing the need for accountability in cases of communal violence.
