DISPUR, Guwahati: 4 October 2023: The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma made yet another outrageous statement regarding the Muslims of Assam. As a person vested with authority by the Constitution of India, the Assamese CM’s retort that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not need the votes of the Muslim community for the next 10 years, is not only against the spirit of the Constitution but also against the policy of ‘Sabka Saath’ of his own party’s Prime Minister.
Speaking to media on Sunday, Sarma said the BJP will focus on public welfare and will receive support from Muslims. Still, the party does not need their votes. They may cheer ‘Zindabad’ for Himanta Biswa Sarma, Narendra Modi, and BJP. However, when the elections approach, he would personally urge them not to vote for the BJP.
Mr. Sarma suggested that Muslim votes are only acceptable if Muslims of Assam start practicing family planning, refrain from child marriage, and reject fundamentalism. It will take 10 years for Muslims of Assam to adopt these policies. Those who vote for him and the BJP should not have more than two or three children, avoid child marriages, and embrace Sufism instead of fundamentalism. He would come to seek their votes only when these conditions were met.
When asked about the educational backwardness of Assamese Muslims, the Chief Minister said that seven colleges in minority areas will be opened in the coming days.
