Prof. Jasim Mohammad Urges IICC to Host Sir Syed Day Lecture

The newly elected President of India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), Salman Khurshid, recently unveiled the events calendar for October 2024. However, a notable omission caught the attention of Prof. Mohammad, former media advisor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and an IICC member – no event had been scheduled to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of AMU, which falls on October 17.

Prof. Jasim Mohammad has formally requested the IICC management to organize a special program in honor of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. He emphasized that Sir Syed’s vision and contributions have left an enduring legacy on Indian society, particularly in the realm of education through the establishment of AMU.

Prof. Mohammad noted that Sir Syed Day is celebrated annually on October 17 at AMU to honor the birth of the iconic reformer and thinker. “Given Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s pivotal role in shaping modern Muslim thought in India, it is only appropriate that IICC commemorate this occasion with a dedicated program,” he stated.

He proposed that the lecture be scheduled for either October 16 or 17, allowing members of the Centre to engage with and reflect on Sir Syed’s remarkable contributions.
