Madras HC Criticizes Sadhguru: “Why Promote Renunciation for Others’ Daughters?”

Chennai: The Madras High Court has made serious remarks against Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a spiritual leader and founder of Isha Foundation. The court was hearing a petition filed by retired professor S. Kamaraj of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, who accused the Isha Yoga Center of brainwashing his two daughters into becoming lifelong renunciates (sanyasinis).

During the hearing, the bench of Justice S.M. Subramaniam and Justice V. Sivagnanam questioned the disparity between Sadhguru’s personal choices and his teachings. “Jaggi Vasudev ensured that his own daughter is married and well-settled in life, but why is he encouraging other women to renounce their worldly lives?” the court asked.

The case has sparked widespread debate, as the petitioner alleges that women, including his daughters, are being influenced to give up their material lives and dedicate themselves entirely to ‘spiritual pursuits’ at the Isha Yoga Center. The court has taken a serious view of these allegations and is set to continue its examination of the case.
