New Delhi: Malik Motasim Khan, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, expressed deep concern over the demolition of a mosque, dargah, and a 500-year-old cemetery near the Somnath Temple in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district. In a statement, he strongly condemned the act, calling it a blatant violation of the Supreme Court’s stay order and an insult to the judiciary.
The demolition, which took place on the morning of September 28, was described as a planned and deliberate action that disregarded the recent Supreme Court directive. “Just ten days ago, the Supreme Court had clearly prohibited illegal demolition activities across the country, making it mandatory to seek court approval for such actions. Unfortunately, the local administration ignored these instructions,” said Mr. Khan.
He further added, “While urban development is important, the continuous demolition of religious and historical structures, especially those belonging to religious minorities, especially Muslims, without legal consideration, has become a matter of serious concern. This not only violates the principles of justice but also contradicts the spirit of the Constitution.”
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has called on the central government to intervene immediately, halt these immoral actions, and ensure that the rule of law is upheld. They also urged the government to hold those responsible for the illegal demolition accountable and restore the religious sanctity of the demolished sites. “We hope that the rights of all communities in the country will be respected equally,” Mr. Khan concluded.
