JMI Student Areeba Anwar Wins National Award for Inspiring Essay on Human Spirit

New Delhi: In a remarkable achievement, Areeba Anwar, an undergraduate student from the Department of Biosciences at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has been honored with the prestigious Damodarashri National Award for Academic Excellence 2024. Her essay titled “Victory Will Be of Human Spirit” was selected as the best among thousands of submissions from across the country, reported the Awaaz.

Organized by SS Khanna Girls Degree College, affiliated with Allahabad University, this year’s competition drew over 2,000 participants, with only ten essays making it to the final round. Areeba’s work not only earned her a spot in the top ten but was also declared the winner of the best undergraduate essay nationally.

The award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a memento, and books worth Rs 5,000, was presented at a ceremony on October 2, coinciding with the celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. Areeba represented her university under the auspices of the Literature, Fine Arts, Quiz, and Debate Club of the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) office.

Prior to her final presentation in Prayagraj, Areeba sought guidance from Dr. Rumi Naqvi of the Sahitya Club, who provided valuable suggestions to strengthen her essay. Her compelling 5,000-word essay emphasized the resilience of the human spirit, arguing that this inner strength is crucial not only for individual survival but also for national development.

Areeba’s success is a source of pride for both her and Jamia Millia Islamia, showcasing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and fostering creativity among its students.
