New Delhi: The Urdu Development Organization (UDO) and United Muslims of India (UMI) held a condolence meeting in Daryaganj here to honour the memory of distinguished journalist Alam Naqvi, who recently passed away. Veteran journalist Jalaluddin Aslam praised Naqvi’s exemplary contributions to Urdu journalism, describing him as a humble, fearless, and straightforward reporter associated with prominent publications such as Daily Inquilab Mumbai, Daily Qaumi Awaz, Daily Azzaim, and Daily Awadh Nama.
Naqvi’s notable works include “Lahu Chiragh,” a collection of writings on the Gujarat riots, and “Umeed,” a selection of articles published in Daily Inquilab and Urdu Times, which showcased his high journalistic standards. His articles under the title “Nuqta-e-Nazar” were featured in Sunday Magazine, and his books “Mustaqbil” and “Azan” have also been included in eBook collections by Rekhta.
Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan highlighted that Alam Naqvi received the Best Journalism Award during the 2009 International Urdu Day celebrations, recommended by renowned journalist Mahfoozur Rahman. Born on 26 February 1949 in Lucknow, Naqvi passed away after a prolonged illness at a Delhi hospital on 3 October 2024. He was laid to rest beside his ancestors at Imam Bargah Ghufran Maab in Lucknow. His passing is a huge loss for the Urdu literary and journalistic community.
Condolences were expressed by several prominent figures, including Muhammad Arif Iqbal, editor of Urdu Book Review, renowned journalist Javed Akhtar, Syed Sajid Ali Tonki, and others.
