Aaqib Khan Selected for India A Team for Emerging Asia Cup

Aaqib Khan, a 20-year-old pace bowler hailing from Saharanpur, has been selected for India ‘A’ team for the forthcoming ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Oman from October 18 to 27.

Aaqib, the sole representative from Uttar Pradesh, received recognition for his outstanding performance in the recently finished Duleep Trophy, during which he claimed eight wickets across two matches.

Last year, he delivered an exceptional performance, securing 14 wickets through impressive bowling. In total, Aaqib participated in 13 first-class matches, where he has taken 37 wickets. In List A cricket, he has competed in 11 matches, achieving 14 wickets.

In a conversation with TOI, Aaqib, who is currently engaged in the Ranji Trophy match between Uttar Pradesh and Bengal in Lucknow, expressed, “I learned about my selection through social media when the squad was announced today. I am extremely pleased to see my name included. I extend my gratitude to the BCCI and the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association for acknowledging my efforts and providing me with this opportunity. I also received a call instructing me to report on October 15.”

Aaqib Khan, born on December 25, 2003, started his first-class career on January 11, 2020, representing Uttar Pradesh in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy. His debut in T20 cricket occurred on January 16, 2021, also for Uttar Pradesh, during the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Furthermore, he made his List A debut on February 24, 2021, playing for Uttar Pradesh in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
