Firdosa Bashir Emerges as Rising Star in Islamic Calligraphy from South Kashmir

Firdosa Bashir, a talented young Islamic calligraphy artist hailing from Kehribal, Anantnag, South Kashmir, is attracting recognition for her intricate and remarkable creations. After passing 12th grade, Firdosa enrolled in an Islamic seminary to delve into Islamic literature; however, her quest for calligraphy prompted her to dedicate herself to mastering the art of Arabic script.

Firdosa’s artistry reflects spiritual principles of Islam, incorporating traditional calligraphy techniques infused with her unique vision. Her works are distinguished by vibrant colours and intricate patterns, garnering admiration from her community.

Reflecting on her artistic journey, Firdosa shared, “I came across a YouTube video featuring a girl practicing calligraphy. She had established a significant following, and her videos received numerous positive remarks. Inspired by her success, I decided to pursue calligraphy myself, despite having no prior experience or formal training.”

Firdosa’s path has been fraught with obstacles. The young artist revealed that her family was initially unsupportive of her choice to pursue a career in calligraphy. Nevertheless, over time, their stance shifted to one of support.

“My passion was intense, and I found joy in my work. I believed that if I harnessed my talent, I could achieve significant success. Thus, I embarked on my calligraphy journey. Initially, it felt off, but eventually, I began to feel a sense of fulfilment, and I persevered,” she explained.

“I am now very content, and my family expresses pride in my endeavors, acknowledging that I am engaged in something meaningful. With God’s grace, I aspire to establish myself as a calligraphy artist in the future,” she continued.
