Palestinian Girl Maryam Bisharat Wins Gold Medal at World Karate Championship

Palestinian Karate athlete Maryam Bisharat has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing gold medal at the 13th World Karate Federation (WKF) Junior and Youth World Championship, held in Venice, Italy.

She defeated an Egyptian competitor in the final match. At the age of 21, Bisharat made history as the first Palestinian to win a gold medal at this prestigious event. Her path to victory included a semi-final win against an Italian national team member, where she scored 8-3. In the quarter-finals, she dominated a Belgian national team player with a score of 7-1, and in the round of 16, she narrowly defeated her Swiss opponent 1-0.

In her opening match, she secured a decisive 4-0 victory against a player from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bisharat was also crowned champion at the Asian Championship last August and claimed the title at the World League Championship in May.

Earlier this year, Bsharat earned a gold medal at the 2024 AKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships held in Manila, Philippines. She later added another gold to her achievements at the 2024 Karate 1 Youth League in A Coruña, Spain.
