Hyderabad: With the government of Telangana deciding to conduct a caste survey, the AIMIM has demanded that it should separately conduct a survey of BC-E category, which includes 14 social and educationally backward groups among Muslims.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) urged the Backward Classes Welfare Commission of the state to direct and issue necessary instructions to the planning department which is the nodal department for conducting the survey of people belonging to BC-E category separately, as well as the 14 sub-classes, who all are entitled to 4% reservation.
A delegation of AIMIM legislators led by the party’s floor leader in Telangana Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi submitted a memorandum to G. Niranjan, Chairman, Backward Classes Welfare Commission.
The party stated that covering BC-E and the 14 sub-classes is necessary to fulfil the aims and objectives of the survey.
The state government on October 10 issued a Government Order (GO) for a comprehensive door-to-door household survey (socio, educational, economic, employment, political and caste survey) in the entire Telangana.
As per the GO, the Planning Department has been designated as the nodal department to conduct the survey, which will be completed within 60 days.
“Government after careful consideration, hereby order to take up a comprehensive door to door household survey (socio, educational, economic, employment, political and caste survey) of entire Telangana so as to plan and implement various socio, economic, educational, employment and political opportunities for the amelioration of Backwards Classes, SC and ST citizens of the state and other weaker sections of the state,” reads the GO.
However, contrary to the assurance given by the government in the Assembly that the survey will cover Muslims, the GO has no mention of the Muslim community or minorities.
It is in this backdrop that the AIMIM demanded that socially and educationally backward groups listed under BC-E be covered under the survey.
While welcoming the decision of the state government and the GO, the AIMIM said to take the intention of the government its logical conclusion as well as to ensure that the said comprehensive door to door household survey is effective, necessary instructions be given to the planning department to carry out the detailed survey of people of state of Telangana belonging to BC-E class separately, as well as the 14 sub-classes within the BC-E category individually, who all are entitled to 4% reservation.
The AIMIM said only then the data and outcome of the survey conducted by the planning department will give a holistic understanding of the status and position of the Backward Classes i.e., BC-E class separately, as well as the 14 sub-classes individually and in turn will be helpful in fulfilling the purpose of providing socio, economic, educational, employment, and political opportunities as well as amelioration of Backward Classes i.e., BC-E class per se.
The party mentioned in the representation that 4% reservation to the backward classes belonging to BC-E category was extended to eradicate the social and educational backwardness among the said class of people.
The AIMIM, which has seven MLAs in the Telangana Assembly, urged the BC Commission Chairman to immediately issue instructions in this regard to the planning department.
