SDPI Hosts Round Table Conference on Waqf and Madrasa

– Raheem Khan

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) held a Round Table Conference titled “Waqf & Madrasa – The Way Ahead: Dismantling the Threats & Challenges” at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi on Sunday. The event saw the participation of several dignitaries, community leaders, activists, and intellectuals.

National Vice President Mohammad Shafi presided over the conference, while National General Secretary Mohammad Elyas Thumbe delivered the keynote address. National Secretary Faisal Izzudheen offered vote of thanks.

The conference voiced strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, labelling it as malicious and harmful. Attendees argued that the bill is part of a broader pattern of legislation aimed at marginalizing Muslims and relegating them to second-class citizenship. The government’s efforts to shut down madrasas nationwide were heavily criticised.

The conference concluded by emphasizing the importance of resisting all threats and challenges faced by Waqf and Madrasa institutions, their properties, and their cultural legacies. It also highlighted the need to raise awareness among Muslims and other communities about the vital role Waqf and Madrasas play in society.
