Unani Medicine Should Be Promoted Like Ayurveda in Uttarakhand: Dr. Matiullah Majid

Workshop on Dalk Therapy Organised by All India Unani Tibbi Congress in Roorkee

Roorkee: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (Uttarakhand) organised a one-day workshop here, highlighting the significance and benefits of Dalk (massage) therapy. The event, supported by Udma, Shahi Pharma India Limited, and Max Remedies, saw participation from notable figures in the field of Unani medicine.

Dr. Obaidullah Baig, International Coordinator of All India Unani Tibbi Congress, emphasised that modern practices have moved away from the effective technique of Dalk therapy, which can alleviate Musculoskeletal disorders within minutes without medication. He urged practitioners to focus on hands-on learning to benefit both themselves and their patients, noting that Unani medicine is a complete scientific system of treatment.

The workshop’s chief guest, Dr. J.N. Nautiyal, President of Bhartiya Chikitsa Parishad, Government of Uttarakhand, raised the slogan “Hum Hain Hindustani – Hamari Pathy Ayurveda Aur Unani” (“We are Indians – Our Healing Methods are Ayurveda and Unani”). He expressed confidence that India would soon lead the world in promoting AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) therapies, as global interest in natural healing methods is on the rise.

Dr. Nautiyal praised Unani medicine as an ancient, effective form of treatment and encouraged Unani doctors to engage with the public with confidence, continuously updating their knowledge to stay relevant.

Presiding over the event, Dr. Matiullah Majid, President of All India Unani Tibbi Congress (Uttarakhand) and a member of Bhartiya Chikitsa Parishad, stressed the need to establish a government Unani Medical College in Kaliyar Sharif. He urged that just as Ayurveda has been promoted in the state, Unani medicine should also receive similar support. Drawing inspiration from Hakim Ajmal Khan’s efforts a century ago, who founded the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College in Delhi, Dr. Majid called on the state government to strengthen the integrated system of Unani and Ayurveda as pioneered by Khan.

The General Secretary of All India Unani Tibbi Congress, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, spoke about the need for a determined effort to advance Unani medicine in Uttarakhand. He praised the enthusiasm of the attending Unani doctors and underscored the importance of the Congress’s active presence in the state for the promotion of Unani medicine.

Prominent attendees at the workshop included Dr. Ghazala Nasreen, Dr. Mohammad Yusuf, Dr. Mohammad Farooq, Dr. Saleem Ahmed, Dr. Irfan Haq, Dr. Faizan Ali Khan, Dr. Mohammad Sohail, Dr. Mazhar Hasan, Dr. Mohammad Rashid, Dr. Abdul Qadir, Dr. Mohammad Naseebuddin, Dr. Ahmad Farooqi, Dr. Mohammad Ghayoor, Dr. Aas Mohammad, and Israr Ahmed Ujjaini, among others.
