Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication launched the country’s first Gaming Startups Meeting Day in Salé last week, aimed at boosting the gaming industry. The event, organised in collaboration with Huawei Morocco, is part of the kingdom’s push to become a key player in technological development, reports Middle East Monitor.
Culture Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said the event reflects Morocco’s ambition to be a “key player in the technological development industry, announced several months ago.”
Bensaid added, “The gaming industry is a promising sector for young Moroccans,” noting that it offers opportunities in underexplored fields.
During the event, the ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Morocco to support local start-ups and train young entrepreneurs in areas such as AI, cloud computing, and big data. The agreement, signed by Bensaid and Huawei Northern Africa’s Executive Vice President Jeremy Lin, aims to strengthen innovation and digital skills.
In a statement to the press, Huawei Morocco’s Chief Brand Officer, Nabil Ouchagour, stressed the company’s “commitment to supporting the national games strategy, through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.”
He explained that the MoU embodies Huawei’s strong commitment to supporting the e-gaming strategy in Morocco, adding that “the group focuses mainly on supporting the infrastructure of Moroccan start-ups operating in this sector.”
