Investigative Indian journalist Rana Ayyub and Palestinian photojournalist Samar Abu Elouf have received 2024 International Press Freedom Awards by Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) for their path breaking, exemplary and fearless work.
Ms. Ayyub, who is a columnist for The Washington Post, is lauded in the West for her reporting on the persecution of minorities, state-sanctioned violence and inter-communal conflict in India.
Samar Abu Elouf, currently residing in Doha, Qatar, with her four children, waits for updates from her homeland.
“Since leaving Gaza, I haven’t heard any bombing. I had suffered with it for so long that I got used to it,” Ms. Elouf shared with The Globe and Mail. “My soul is in Gaza. My family is there. I’m still living it.”
