BSP Chief Mayawati Calls for Effective Implementation of SC Judgment on Madrasas

Lucknow: BSP leader Mayawati stated on Tuesday that the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the Madrasa Act in Uttar Pradesh will resolve the ongoing debate concerning the education provided in these institutions and eliminate the associated uncertainties.

She noted that, following the SC decision, there is potential for madrasas to receive official recognition, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, which would contribute to their operational stability.

In a post on X, she remarked, “I welcome the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s decision today affirming the validity and constitutionality of the UP Madrasa Education Board Act-2004. This ruling will undoubtedly put an end to the disputes surrounding madrasa education in Uttar Pradesh and alleviate the uncertainties faced by thousands of madrassas.”

She emphasised the importance of its effective implementation. The SC has confirmed the constitutional legitimacy of the 2004 Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, overturning a previous Allahabad High Court ruling that deemed it a violation of secular principles.

The BSP leader also expressed her approval of the Supreme Court’s ruling concerning private properties. In a majority decision of 7:2, the SC determined that states do not possess the authority under the Constitution to seize all privately-owned resources for redistribution aimed at serving the “common good.”
