Saba Haider, originally from Ghaziabad, has achieved a significant milestone by winning the DuPage County Board election in the United States, bringing pride to both her city and India. Running as a Democratic Party candidate, Saba secured victory against Republican candidate Patty Gustin. Saba previously contested the same election in 2022 but narrowly lost by a margin of just 1,000 votes. This time she bagged 39,365 votes while Gustin got 30,844 votes. For over a decade and a half, she has resided in Chicago.
Saba’s early education was completed in Ghaziabad, where she excelled academically at Holy Child School. She went on to graduate with a B.Sc., earning a gold medal from Ram Chameli Chadha College. Later, she pursued an M.Sc. in Wildlife Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), also achieving a gold medal.
In 2007, after completing her studies, Saba married Ali Kazmi, a resident of Aurangabad in Bulandshahr, and moved to the United States. Saba, a mother of two, has balanced her family responsibilities with active involvement in social work, leading her to be elected as a school board member. Her commitment to community welfare, combined with her role as a yoga trainer, has helped her expand her social influence, bringing her recognition both locally and internationally.
Saba Haider has long been engaged in community service, particularly in the areas of health, education, environmental conservation, and anti-substance abuse initiatives. Her dedication to social welfare is deeply rooted, inherited from her family. Her mother, Mahjabeen Haider, operates a school for underprivileged children, and her father, Ali Haider, is a retired engineer from the UP Jal Nigam. Saba’s two brothers, Abbas Haider, a businessman in Ghaziabad, and Zeeshan Haider, who works in Dubai, are also part of this family legacy of public service.
Saba’s family continues to reside in Ghaziabad’s Sanjay Nagar neighbourhood in Chitragupta Vihar, where her achievements are celebrated as a source of pride for the community.
