Mainpuri: Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav has strongly criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent comments about the Mughal Museum in Agra, accusing him of attempting to distort history to fuel political divisions.
Adityanath’s remarks questioning the relevance of the Mughal legacy in India and suggesting that the Mughal museum should be renamed to honour Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have sparked a fresh debate. The SP leader condemned this move as a deliberate attempt to distract the public from more pressing issues, including unemployment, poor infrastructure, and the deteriorating state of the health sector.
Yadav’s response emphasised that such statements only served to stir emotions rather than address real concerns.
“These remarks are a diversion from the severe issues that people are facing – like rising unemployment and worsening public health conditions. The current government refuses to discuss the lack of investment and the inability to create new industries, which has led to unemployment reaching record levels,” she said.
In her view, this politics of division seeks to rewrite history and create rifts between communities, diverting attention from the government’s failures in governance and economic management.
Dimple also expressed concern about the broader implications of such rhetoric, pointing out that it could lead to attempts to undermine democratic principles and alter the nation’s historical narrative. “By continuously using such inflammatory language, the ruling party is not only dividing communities but also working towards undermining the very Constitution that binds us all,” she added.
As the debate continues, it is clear that such rhetoric by certain forces are part of a larger strategy to erase the historical contribution of Muslim rulers and build a narrative that Muslim rulers were invaders who suppressed and exploited the majority Hindu community. This narrative would then be used to polarise voters for electoral gain.
