Sir Syed Day Celebrations: AMU Girls’ School Hosts Inter-School Poetry Recitation Competition

Aligarh: In celebration of Sir Syed Day, the Aligarh Muslim University Girls’ School held an Inter-School Nazm-Khawani (poetry recitation) competition, gathering young talents from eight AMU-affiliated schools. This annual event highlighted the students’ appreciation for cultural heritage and the legacy of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, AMU’s founder.

A total of 22 participants divided into two groups demonstrated their poetic skills, showcasing eloquent renditions of Urdu poetry.

In the Senior Secondary Group-A, Syed Abrar Ahmad of Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys), along with Hiba Sabir and Nabila Nousheen of Senior Secondary School (Girls), jointly won first prize. Kinza Khan from AMU Girls School received the second prize, while Abdul Qayyum from STS School and Mohd Hammad Khawar from RMPS AMU City School shared third place. Mohammad Arif Jamal from RMPS AMU City School was awarded a consolation prize.

In the Secondary Group-B, Samiya Asad of AMU Girls School and Huzaifa Rashid of RMPS AMU City School won first place together. The second prize was shared by Asad Riyaz from STS School and Arshan Ahmad and Mohd. Saquib from AMU ABK School Boys, while Adeeba and Darakshan from AMU ABK School Girls shared the third prize.

The competition was judged by Dr. Mohd. Haneef Khan, Assistant Professor at the Women’s College Urdu Department, and Mr. Ahmad Hussain, ASVC and former AMU faculty member.

Additionally, results from earlier competitions, including the Inter-School Poster Making Competition, Intra-School Card Making Competition, and Intra-School Nazm-Khawani Competition, were announced. Lavenesh Anand and Syed Abrar Ahmad from Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys) and Madiha Imran from AMU Girls School won first prize in poster making. In the card-making contest, Teba, Ayesha Khan, and Ayesha Fatima secured the top three positions, with Falak Fatima receiving a consolation award.

Mrs. Amna Malik, Principal of AMU Girls School, supervised the events with Mrs. Arshi Zafar Khan, Cultural Incharge, and Zeba Nawaz, Event Incharge. Reflecting on the importance of Sir Syed’s vision, Mrs. Malik emphasised how these competitions encourage students to cherish cultural heritage while engaging in friendly rivalry.

Bushra Ashraf and Madeeha Irfan hosted the event, with Sifat Mirza announcing the results, and Inaya Firdaus delivering a vote of thanks.
