Erdogan Urges OIC Action to Counter Israeli Aggression, Proposes Arms Embargo

Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the critical role of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in confronting Israeli aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, as he addressed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman during a meeting on Monday, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.

Following a discussion on the sidelines of an Extraordinary Joint Summit of OIC and Arab League in Riyadh, Erdogan emphasised that decisive measures by the OIC are essential to halt the ongoing hostilities, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate on social media platform X.

The Turkish leader also expressed Türkiye’s commitment to regional stability and unity among Muslim nations to counter Israel’s actions, advocating for joint solidarity. Erdogan informed the crown prince of Türkiye’s initiative to push for an arms embargo on Israel at the United Nations, an effort he pledged to expand through broader international support.

This high-level dialogue between Erdogan and Bin Salman reflects a strategic call for Muslim countries to respond collectively to crises impacting Palestine and Lebanon. The OIC meeting, convened in Riyadh, saw leaders discuss both regional conflicts and strengthened bilateral relations.

The OIC summit marks a significant attempt to unify Muslim nations in opposition to the rising violence in Palestine and Lebanon, while Türkiye positions itself as a lead advocate in advancing diplomatic and strategic responses.
