The Special Task Force (STF) in Agra arrested a man on Saturday night for impersonating a soldier to defraud people by creating fake military dependency cards. The accused, Vikram Singh, allegedly wore an army uniform to enter restricted military areas and deceive civilians, reports ETV Bharat.
Investigations revealed that Singh has a criminal background with cases of fraud and assault, including previous jail terms.
The STF received a tip-off about an individual issuing fake dependency cards for entry into military areas and even providing access to army canteen benefits. Upon probing, STF inspector Yatindra Sharma found that Singh was selling these fraudulent cards, charging up to 20,000 INR for army canteen cards and smaller amounts for dependency cards.
Singh, a resident of Mathura’s Thiravali village, had posed as a sergeant on social media, using army uniforms and fabricated identity cards to attract people. He targeted young women, offering them promises of military canteen jobs and other services, which ultimately led to allegations of harassment and two registered cases of assault.
According to officials, when approached by the STF, Singh initially tried to intimidate them. Upon finding multiple fake cards, he surrendered. Both the STF and military intelligence are now investigating how he gathered information on army protocols and how long he has been defrauding people.
This case has raised security concerns, highlighting the need for stricter verification processes to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive areas. The accused is currently being held as further details continue to unfold in this multi-layered investigation.
