Hyderabad: Desperate for a male child, a couple from Andhra Pradesh with the help of their relative kidnapped a month-old baby boy from Niluofer Hospital for children.
Police rescued the baby boy and arrested the kidnappers when they were taking him to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, Abdullah and his wife Reshma hatched the plan to kidnap the baby boy. The couple, hailing from Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district and residing in Hyderabad, had three daughters. Though Reshma was eight-month pregnant, the couple feared having one more daughter.
Abdullah executed the kidnap plan with his sister-in-law Shaheen Begum. Police arrested all the three accused and they have been sent to judicial custody.
The baby boy was kidnapped from the hospital on the evening of Saturday (Nov 23).
According to police, Haseena, 27, had given birth to a baby boy at a hospital in Zaheerabad town of Telangana on October 25. As the newborn was suffering from jaundice, she brought the child to Niluofer Hospital in Hyderabad for treatment. After the treatment, Haseena with her mother were signing discharge papers when Shaheen offered to help them in completing the formalities. She diverted their attention and escaped with the infant.
Shocked over the kidnap, Haseena lodged a complaint with Nampally Police Station. The police formed five teams to rescue the infant and arrest the kidnappers.
Police scanned the CCTV footage and found that the kidnappers headed toward Kurnool highway. Police in Jogulamba Gadwal district was alerted. The kidnappers were finally apprehended and the baby boy was rescued when police intercepted a Maruthi Omni at Pullur Toll Plaza.
Police handed over the rescued infant to his mother Haseena while the kidnappers were produced before a magistrate, who sent them to judicial custody.
The couple who kidnapped the baby hails from Anantapur district and were residing in First Lancer area in Hyderabad.
