Aligarh: A two-member delegation from the prestigious University of Houston (UH), USA, visited various departments at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), fostering prospects for academic collaboration. The delegation included distinguished senior academician Prof. Robin Edward Gearing and Dr. Shahnaz Savani from UH’s School of Social Work.
Over their two-day visit, facilitated by the Aligarh Alumni Association of Texas, Houston (AAA-TX), the delegates engaged with AMU faculty, senior residents, research scholars, and postgraduate students.
Prof. Robin Edward Gearing, Ph.D., Professor and Director of the MH-RITES Research Centre at UH, delivered lectures at AMU’s Department of Social Work and the Department of Psychiatry, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.
Dr. Samina Salim, President of AAA-TX, an AMU alumna and UH faculty member, underscored the potential for enhanced academic ties through student and faculty exchanges, as well as collaborative grant opportunities.
AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, warmly received the delegation and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing global academic partnerships. In her meeting with Prof. Gearing and Dr. Savani, she emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting international collaboration.
The visit is expected to lay the groundwork for a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two institutions, marking a significant milestone in strengthening their academic partnership.
